What is Type 2 Diabetes?
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency, leading to elevated blood glucose (hyperglycaemia). Unlike Type 1 diabetes, which is autoimmune in nature, Type 2 is largely influenced by lifestyle, diet, and genetics.
🧠 In T2DM, the body’s cells become resistant to insulin’s action. Over time, the pancreas may also produce less insulin. If left unmanaged, this can lead to severe complications affecting the eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart, and brain.
